When to Submit Your Site to the Search Engines:
Sitting in my Sacramento office I was working on a marketing proposal for a new client. As often happens one of my employees derailed me when approaching me about a website client who was ready to be submitted to the search engines. I asked why we were waiting to submit them I was told that they still had content they wanted to get up on their site.
This boggles me. Just as any kind of business is an evolutionary process; the same can be said for websites. A good website is never finished. It is constantly being added to, changed, and growing the longer a company is in business. This allows for more and more relevant content to be added and all the while increase ranking on the search engines. SIA Professional Services does this from our Sacramento office through articles, store content changes, and new page additions. The search engines see these changes and look favorably on our website which allows us to maintain top 30 ranking for a large amount of our products and services. Even older information is kept on our website (www.SIAServices.net) because it still helps visitors find our website. Your website is a living breathing animal which should always be fed.
That being said, a company should begin submitting to the search engines immediately. Search engines can take up to several months to actually index a site for the first time. The site may show up on the search engines when the URL (the website address) itself is looked up, however indexing involves the search engines scouring your entire website for all content. So waiting to submit your website will result in a longer period of time before your site itself is scanned and placed in the proper categories.
So your website should never be finished. By constantly updating your website and increasing content, you will continue to find favor with the search engines and will invariably increase your ranking. Don’t wait, however to get your site into the search engines, because time is money and as a Sacramento small business owner, or a small business owner anywhere, you shouldn’t waste either; only your competition wins that way.
